The world’s largest airline is relaunching another destination in the Caribbean: the French Caribbean island of Martinique, Caribbean Journal has learned.
On Nov. 6, the carrier will resume its nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Fort-de-France’s Aime Cesaire International Airport.
The flights will initially run weekly on Saturdays before increasing to at least thrice weekly, according to American Airlines.
American is operating the service on its Embraer 175 aircraft with 76 seats, the company confirmed.
The Miami-Fort-de-France flight takes around 3.5 hours.
It’s a major boost for what remains one of the Caribbean’s emerging destinations, thanks to a remarkable cocktail of spectacular beaches, magnificent gastronomy and vibrant culture.
Oh, and it’s also the global epicenter of rum, with 12 rum distilleries on the island making it what some call the “Napa Valley of Rum.”
It’s also seen renewed hotel development in recent years, particularly on the boutique side, from the urban Hotel Simon to the hillside French Coco to the Diamant Les Bains; the latter is a reimagining of what was the first true hotel on the island.

The newest James Bond film is out in theaters on Sept. 30, and it doesn’t just mark the return of 007 to the big screen.
It also marks his return to Jamaica — the island without which his character would not exist.
Indeed, Bond creator Ian Fleming created and wrote all of his Bond novels at his Goldeneye villa in Oracabessa, a property that is now a luxury resort owned by music legend Chris Blackwell.
And Jamaica has played a major role in some of the films, most notably Dr. No, almost all of which was shot and set in Jamaica.
