Sandals Is Reopening More Resorts in the Caribbean

Sandals Resorts International, which was among the first hotel companies to relaunch as the region’s tourism industry reopened, is planning to reopen more resorts in the region.

Sandals has already reopened five of its resorts in the Caribbean, including one in Antigua; three in Jamaica and one in Saint Lucia.

Beginning next month, Sandals will begin another wave of reopenings, kicking off with the relaunch of the Sandals Regency La Toc in Saint Lucia on Aug. 31 (that will join the already-relaunched Sandals Grande St Lucian).

On Sept. 3, Sandals will reopen a fourth resort in Jamaica, the Sandals Ochi, followed by a pair of resorts in Barbados on Sept. 9: the Sandals Royal Barbados and Sandals Barbados resorts.

On Oct. 1, Sandals will reopen its Sandals Grenada resort and its Sandals South Coast resort in Jamaica.

On Oct. 8, the Sandals Royal Plantation, also in Jamaica, will be reopening.

That will be followed by the relaunch of the Sandals Halcyon Beach resort in Saint Lucia on Nov. 1.

The all-inclusive company also announced it was planning to open both of its resorts in The Bahamas, the Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau and the Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma on Nov. 1, 2020.

And while the pandemic has significantly affected the wider tourism industry, it hasn’t slowed SRI, which just announced an expansion into the island of St Vincent.

The Bahamas will observe new lockdown schedule for the next two weekends due to the significant increase of COVID-19 cases on the island.

Sixty-five additional COVI-19 cases were confirmed in The Bahamas yesterday, bringing to 447 the total number of confirmed cases.

“These measures are being implemented to protect the lives and health of Bahamians and residents. The government will undertake a careful review of the health data after these two lockdown periods,” the Office of the Prime Minister statement said.

In the statement, the government again reminded Bahamians and residents that wearing masks, physical distancing and thorough hand washing are essential measures in limiting the spread of COVID-19.

“The cooperation of every Bahamian and resident is vital to protect the general health and the general welfare,” the statement said.

Lockdown Schedule

The lockdown this coming weekend begins at 7 p.m. on Friday and ends 5 a.m. Tuesday for all islands of The Bahamas, excluding Grand Bahama, where a complete lockdown is currently in place.

Food stores, gas stations, pharmacies and water depots will be permitted to operate on Saturday for the general public from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, at 5 a.m., commercial and social activities may resume as outlined in the Emergency Powers (COVID-19 Pandemic) (No. 3) Order, 2020.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7 to 5 a.m., Monday, August 10, a lockdown will be implemented for all islands of The Bahamas.

Food stores, gas stations, pharmacies and water depots will be permitted to operate on Saturday, August 8 for the general public from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Food store workers required to restock after curfew from Monday to Friday and during Saturday over a lockdown weekend may seek permission from the commissioner of police to travel to and from their residence and workplace only.

All individuals wishing to leave the country during the lockdown either by air or by boat may do so.

Religious services may be held virtually. Live streaming is permitted between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from a religious facility, provided that no more than 10 people participate from the facility.

During a lockdown, exercise is permitted within the confines of an individual’s yard only.

Construction is permitted on Saturday over a lockdown weekend.

A lockdown means that no individual, except an essential worker, is permitted to leave their place of residence for any purpose, other than to seek urgent medical care or as outlined above.
