Riu Opens New Water Park in Costa Rica

Riu Hotels and Resorts has continued its region-wide water park push.

The company has opened a new “Splash Water World” park in Costa Rica.

The large-scale aquatic center will be accessible for guests at both the Riu Guanacaste or the Riu Palace Costa Rica, the company said.

The park includes a total of five different water slides, including a four-lane “Aquaracer” water slide, along with a mini splash pad for younger guests.

Both resorts are set on Matapalo Beach in Costa Rica.

Riu has been adding Splash water parks across its properties in the wider Caribbean-Mexico region over the last several years since opening its first Splash park in the Caribbean in 2016.

Two Abaco Hotels Reopen in The Bahamas

In a major step in Abaco’s tourism recovery, the first two resorts have reopened in Great Abaco in The Bahamas, the first to do so since Hurricane Dorian.

That includes the Abaco Club on Winding Bay, one of the leading resort developments in Abaco.

The Abaco Club on Winding Bay, one of the premier hotels in The Bahamas and one of the leading golf resorts in the Caribbean, was the first resort to reopen in the Abaco chain since the devastating storm.

The Abaco Club’s relaunch comes as another small hotel, the seven-room Sandpiper Inn in Abaco’s Schooner Bay community, has also reopened its doors.

“The Abaco Club is open and welcoming members and guests to come enjoy our island paradise,” the resort said in a statement. “The club is as magnificent as ever, and if you truly want to help the people of Abaco, the single most impactful thing you can do is to come here. Bring your energy, your sense of adventure, and your hope now when it is most needed.”

The Southworth Development property is set on 453 acres in Great Abaco, centered around the 18-hole championship golf course designed by Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie — along with a two-mile stretch of beach.

A residential resort, the property includes a mix of two-to-four-bedroom cottages, cabanas and estates.

The course, which has long hosted a Korn Ferry tour tournament called the Great Abaco Classic (which was temporarily relocated to Nassau’s Baha Mar this year), is also open and operating once again.

Amenities include a full spa, an infinity pool, tennis courts, a beach bar, a restaurant and full deep sea fishing and bonefishing charter services.

The Abaco Club also announced this week the launch of its new marina, the Abaco Yacht Club.

For travelers who want to reach Abaco, while the island’s Marsh Harbour International Airport is still not receiving international flights, it is already receiving domestic flights, on carriers like Bahamasair and others.
