The British Virgin Islands is sizzling.

Summer Sizzle BVI is launching its 10th Anniversary Celebration under the slogan Rebuild, Restore, Revive the BVI and inspire the next generation.

The event, which has risen to become the region’s premier fashion and lifestyle event, takes over the BVI with a four-day lineup of events, highlights of which include Global Glamour Runway Show and White & Wakanda Fashion Gala.

This year the team has collaborated with The Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies and has introduced a series of workshops set for Friday July 27th that highlights the youths community’s interest in the world of fashion, hairstyling, makeup and photography as a way of giving back the community after the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Workshop topics include “Making a Brand,” “Principles of Hair Design,” “Makeup Seminar” and “What’s the Story,” a class in creating narrative through photography.

A number of Tortola properties have signed on to partner with the event as host hotels, from Maria’s by the Sea to the Fort Recovery Resort, with the latter featuring the event’s VIP stays.

Delta Adding More Miami-Havana Flights

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Delta Air Lines is adding a second nonstop flight from Miami to Havana, the carrier announced.

The new service to Cuba will run five times a week on Airbus A320 aircraft, with 16 seats in first class, 18 in Delta Comfort+ and 123 in the main cabin.

The new service will launch Oct. 28, part of what seems to be a growing expansion for U.S. carriers to Cuba this fall.

JetBlue is launching new Boston-Havana flights in November, while while Southwest Airlines is expanding with a third daily nonstop flight from Fort Lauderdale to Havana beginning next month.

“Because Miami is an important market for Delta we want to offer more options to our customers,” said Luciano Macagno, Delta’s Managing Director — Latin America and the Caribbean. “The new flight provides our customers with an evening departure from both points in addition to the current morning flight out of Miami and Havana, where we are about to mark our second year of renewed service.”
