Puerto Rico continues to win the fight against zika as cases have markedly declined since October 2016; however, the PRTC continues to encourage travelers to take following precautionary steps while visiting Puerto Rico’s beaches:

• Purchase and use an EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE)/para-menthane-diol (PMD), or IR3535.

• Follow instructions on repellent label and be sure to apply at proper intervals, as directed.

• When wearing sunscreen, be sure to apply sunscreen first, then repellent once sunscreen has dried.

• Cover exposed skin with long sleeves and long pants, when possible, especially when traveling through rainforests and around standing water.

• Keep all balcony doors and windows closed at night.

Eleuthera’s French Leave Joins Autograph Collection

The boutique French Leave Resort in Eleuthera has joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection.

The resort, located on Cupid’s Cay harbor, has 12 seafront cottages with British colonial interiors. It also features a restaurant called 1648.

The resort represents the first construction of seafront cottages on Eleuthera’s Governor’s Harbour since the late 1940s.

Marriott currently has three Caribbean hotels in its Autograph collection: French Leave, Paradise Island’s Atlantis and Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands.

“Having worked with Marriott on several projects, we are thrilled to partner with Autograph Collection Hotels once again,” said Lance Shaner, President of Shaner Hotels.  “It’s an ideal venture for us as it enables French Leave to retain its authenticity and unique persona, while providing guests with enhanced value and access to Marriott’s network and offerings.”

There aren’t any places like this in the Caribbean – the pristine waters of the Exuma archipelago of the Bahamas. It’s Windex-turquoise and ultra-calm, full of sandbars like this one.

This is what it’s like to be there.
