United’s Big Caribbean Expansion for Spring Break 2019

United Airlines is planning a major expansion to the Caribbean for the spring season, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The carrier is adding more than 11,000 seats to destinations in the Caribbean, from U.S. cities including Cleveland, Denver, Newark, Indianapolis, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco.

That includes routes to Caribbean destinations including Aruba, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Bonaire, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, St Kitts, Saint Lucia, the Bahamas and Antigua.

It includes a total of 54 extra flights to the Caribbean, along with 28 extra flights to Mexico.

United is also adding three extra flights to Belize.

Getting the biggest boost? Aruba, followed by the Cayman Islands.

United’s biggest expansion is coming at Chicago O’Hare, where the carrier is adding a grand total of 4,588 new seats to the Caribbean.

“We want our customers to know that, no matter where they want to go for spring break, United Airlines can get them there,” said Ankit Gupta, United’s vice president of Domestic Network Planning. “This is the time of year when our customers start thinking about and planning the perfect getaway, and with our expanded spring schedule, we are offering more flights and more destinations than ever before.”

Sandals Expands Barbados All-Inclusive With New Suites

Sandals’ newest resort in the Caribbean has gotten even bigger.

Sandals has officially launched 50 new luxury suites at its all-suite Sandals Royal Barbados resort, the company announced on Monday.

It’s the third major expansion that’s taken place at Sandals Royal Barbados, which debuted last year as the second Sandals-branded resort in Barbados.

“We are extremely proud that every one of these developments and modernization efforts were executed by the finest professionals from Barbados; from the contractors who built and finished the resorts to the nearly 1,200 local team members who have been trained to the highest levels of service and are now running the operations of the resorts, and who themselves are now training the next generation of our Sandals family,” Sandals Resorts International Chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart told Caribbean Journal in a statement. “We have seen the enhancements made, and that are being made and we have every confidence in the future of Barbados.”

South Seas Swim-Up Club Level Ultra Suite, one of the newly-added accommodations.

Sandals Royal Barbados now has a total of 552 suites at its property on the south coast of Barbados.

Sandals is calling the new units some of the “most over-the-top luxury suites” at the resort.

The new units join a resort that has some of the brand’s most unique amenities in the Caribbean, from a rooftop bar with ocean views to the first-ever bowling alley at a Sandals.

Sandals Royal Barbados first launched on the island at the end of 2017.

Sandals has embarked on a widespread expansion and upgrade push in the Caribbean in recent years.
