JetBlue Expanding Grenada Flights

JetBlue Airways is expanding its flights to the island of Grenada, according to the Grenada Tourism Authority.

Beginning June 11, the New York City-based carrier will be increasing its service to daily flights from John F. Kennedy Airport to Grenada.

The daily flights will run through July 31.

Beginning Aug. 1, JetBlue will be operating two flights per day to Grenada, with that service running through Sept. 3.

In a statement Grenada Tourism Minister Dr Clarice Modeste-Curwen said she “welcomes the increased airlift, especially for our peak summer period.”

The new service comes as Grenada will also welcome a new route on American Airlines from Charlotte this winter.

In St Barth, a Caribbean Classic Reborn

One of St Barth’s venerable hotels is making its long-awaited return for the upcoming winter season, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The Hotel Barriere Le Carl Gustaf, the reimagining of St Barth’s historic Carl Gustaf hotel, is slated to debut this December.

The first property in the Caribbean for the Barrière Group, whose luxury portfolio includes a a collection of hotels in mainland France, Le Carl Gustaf is located in St Barth’s capital of Gustavia.

The relaunched boutique hotel has been designed by the famed Gilles & Boissier, with 24 rooms including 13 cottages and two junior suites, each with their own terrace and private plunge pool. 

The redesign also features new loft and villa accommodations, including a private home with six bedrooms, pool and multiple terraces showcasing the Caribbean sea.

World-renowned Chef Pierre Gagnaire is bringing Fouquet’s to the Caribbean.

Dining options will include the first Caribbean edition of Fouquet’s, the Paris-based, Michelin-starred brasserie by renowned Chef Pierre Gagnaire, with a mix of French and Caribbean-infused cuisine.

The hotel’s portfolio also includes the existing, popular Shellona, set on St Barth’s Shell Beach, which already serves up island-inspired bites like mahi-mahi cooked in coconut milk.

The hotel will also feature the Diane Barrière Spa, combining Parisian elegance with Caribbean well-being through treatments from notable French skincare brand Biologique Recherche.

It’s a jolt of luxury energy to Gustavia, perhaps the most charming town in the French Caribbean, which has seen a renewed focus in the last year and a half of the island’s renaissance.

Punta Cana Is Getting New Flights From Providence

The Dominican Republic’s tourism capital of Punta Cana is getting another new nonstop route from the United States.

This time, it’s a new flight from Providence, Rhode Island’s TF Green Airport on fast-expanding low-cost carrier Sun Country Airlines.

The new seasonal service will launch this winter on Nov. 16, operating once weekly on Saturdays, according to the company.

Service will increase to twice weekly on Dec. 25, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“We’re thrilled to expand our network in Providence and to provide another nonstop international route for T.F. Green,” said Sun Country Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jude Bricker. “Our focus on low fares and excellent customer service has been a great fit in this market, and we appreciate the great partnership we have with the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. We look forward to continuing to grow our presence here in Providence.”

It’s yet another Caribbean expansion for Sun Country, which has increased its regional network to new destinations like Belize and St Kitts in the last year.

The Renaissance Curacao Is Getting a New Look

One of Curacao’s most popular hotels is getting a makeover.

The Renaissance Curacao Resort and Casino, set in the heart of Willemstad, is undergoing an “extensive refresh” project.

The project, which began April 1, will be completed in multiple phases, according to the Curacao Hotel and Tourism Association.

That includes upgrades of the main restaurant, the lobby area and the casino, the first phase of which is slated for completion by August.

The hotel’s guest rooms are also getting a makeover, with that project slated for a December completion.

The Renaissance, which is also home of the Dutch Caribbean island’s main shopping hubs, has a total of 237 rooms in a four-story complex.
