Barbados Has a New Dive Destination

A pair of luxury resorts in Barbados are working together to create a new kind of dive destination in Barbados.

The Port Ferdinand Yacht and Beach Club Residences and the Saint Peter’s Bay Luxury Resort and Residences, both set on Barbados’ Platinum Coast, have unveiled a new dive program led by marine biologist and diving instructor Andre Miller and the Barbados Blue dive center.

The programs range from dedicated kids’ experiences to a broad offering of both diving and snorkeling.

That’s along with snuba, which combines snorkeling and scuba diving without the use of a tank.

“We want our guests to fully immerse themselves in all of the natural beauty Barbados has to offer and our new scuba and snuba program is the perfect way to do that. Not only are we teaching guests about the health and importance of the reef and its creatures, but also creating lasting memories.” said Joseph Violi, group general manager for the two Barbados resorts, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Andre and the team at Barbados Blue – a crew of ocean-loving, happy people who are passionate about what they do.”

The Christopher St Barth Is Expanding

By the Caribbean Journal staff

One of St Barth’s most prestigious hotels is getting bigger.

The boutique Christopher St Barth will be adding a collection of three new villas in December, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The expansion comes after the Christopher’s major renovations in the wake of Hurricane Irma in 2017, when it added the new Christo eatery and the Sisley spa.

Each of the villas has been designed by France’s Olivia Putman, who created units that are completely open to the sea, with a mix of natural materials like bamboo and sandstone.

They’ll each include four bedrooms and a private pool, blending what the property called “the privacy of a personal rental with the comforts of a hotel.”

The Christopher is set on St Barth’s Pointe Milou, with a view of St Jean.

Caribbean Airlines’ Newest Destination

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Caribbean Airlines is adding a new destination in the Caribbean: Curacao.

The regional airline is planning to launch new flights from Trinidad and Tobago to Curacao, with service slated to begin Aug. 2.

The flights will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

“The flights will provide Curacao excellent connections to and from Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, New York and other destinations,” the Curacao Hotel and Tourism Association said in a statement. “These connections will open more possibilities for Curaçao to expand market-share and attract more visitors whether for business or leisure.”

The organization said the new flights were part of a year of conversations.

“We look forward to welcoming Caribbean Airlines to Curaçao,” CHATA said.

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Hilton is at it again in the Caribbean, announcing plans to bring its LXR Hotels and Resorts brand to Anguilla.

In November, the LXR brand will debut at Anguilla’s luxe Zemi Beach House Hotel and Spa.

The 65-key beachfront hotel will join LXR after a two-month annual closure, relaunching with the new name Zemi Beach House Hotel and Spa — LXR Hotels and Resorts.

The hotel is set on Anguilla’s Shoal Bay East.

The hotel will continue to be owned, operated and managed by the Goldstein family.

“On behalf of my family, we are excited to become part of LXR’s wonderful collection of properties,” said Jeff Goldstein. “We built Zemi in 2016 on a dazzling, pristine beach in fashionable Anguilla with lots of love and attention and a great team. We look forward to sharing Zemi, our beach and our 300-year old Thai House, which houses our spa, yoga classes and relaxation deck, with Hilton’s worldwide travelers.”

Hilton’s LXR, the company’s new luxury collection brand, officially launched in December 2018.

Zemi Beach is the first-ever LXR hotel in the Americas.

“Representing LXR’s debut in the Americas, the addition of Zemi Beach House to our carefully curated portfolio showcases our commitment to finding the right product and upholding our standards for authenticity and inspiring destinations,” said Martin Rinck, executive vice president and global head for the Luxury and Lifestyle Group at Hilton. “We are honored to have this world-renowned resort join LXR as one of the founding properties in the growing collection of unique and best-in-class hotels.”

The beachfront hotel, one of the best in Anguilla since its debut several years ago, is set on a six-acre site on Shoal Bay East on Anguilla’s northeastern coast.

“A highly rated and trending hotspot in the Caribbean, Anguilla is on track for a record-breaking season this year as it continues to evolve as a high-end tourist destination,” said Juan Corvinos, vice president, development, Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton. “We recognize that the demand for more branded luxury products in the Caribbean that offer personalized attention and immersive experiences is paramount, and this aligns fully with the identity of LXR Hotels & Resorts’ portfolio. We look forward to opening Zemi Beach House Hotel & Spa as an LXR hotel this winter and to introducing more hotels to the LXR brand in the Caribbean in the following months.”
