VIDEO: Checking in at Windjammer Landing in St. Lucia

It’s perhaps the signature resort in St. Lucia: the Windjammer Landing, north of Castries on a 60-acre site.

The hotel, which is the island’s leading family resort, is home to six pools, five restaurants and four bars, along with 175 rooms set across the beach and the hills, with whitewashed Mediterranean-style architecture offering a special kind of island experience.

This is what it’s like to stay here.

St Kitts’ Christophe Harbour Breaks Ground on Marina Village

The Caribbean’s next big superyacht marina is making progress.

Christophe Harbour, the 2,500-acre resort community on St Kitts’ southeastern peninsula, has broken ground on the first shoreside components of its superyacht marina.

The marina village will be anchored by an 11,000-square-foot Customs House joined by adjacent luxury retail shops.

The Customs House, which is slated to debut next year, will include a real estate discovery center, marina operations, customs and immigration services, a crew lounge and a fitness center, among others.

It’s planned to debut at the same time as the highly-anticipated Park Hyatt St. Kitts, although the retail shops will open in January.

Ironwood Names Construction Manager for $1.1 Billion Cayman Golf Community

The developers of Ironwood, the $1.1 billion golf resort community coming to the East End and North Side of Grand Cayman, have named the construction manager for infrastructure works on the project.

The company has appointed Wharton-Smith International LLC in the role, in which the firm will manage the construction of the golf course and infrastructure of the Ironwood development.

“I love Cayman and the Cayman people. Our prior projects support our commitment to provide opportunities to our Cayman employees including, where needed, skills training and creating opportunities for local companies to participate in the project. We are delighted to return to Cayman and work with the developers of Ironwood on this exciting golf and community project,” said David V Hayes, vice president of Wharton-Smith International LLC. “Ironwood will be home to the first Arnold Palmer designed golf course in the Caribbean; positioning Cayman to become a global golf destination. WSI is proud to manage the construction of the infrastructure and golf courses on the project.”

WSI has managed a number of golf resort development projects in the Caribbean, including the Albany, Atlantis and Bakers Bay Golf projects in the Bahamas and others in the United States Virgin Islands.

“We are extremely pleased to have Wharton-Smith Inc on board as our construction manager for complete infrastructure works and golf construction on Ironwood,” said David Moffitt, Ironwood’s developer. “Their history of successfully competing in the Caribbean, along with an experienced leadership team are key reasons Ironwood along with Arnold Palmer Properties have chosen WSI to oversee this critical component, which is the anchor of the Ironwood development.”

Southwest Airlines’ Latest Numbers

Southwest Airlines saw a 3.6 percent year-over-year increase in traffic last month, with a total of 10.7 billion revenue passenger miles, the carrier said in its latest monthly report.

Available seat miles jumped by 4.6 percent to 12.7 billion last month, while load factor stood at 84.6 percent, up from 85.4 percent in August 2015.

The company said it expected its third-quarter 2016 operating revenue to decline in the range of between 3.5 percent and 4.5 percent as compared with the third quarter of 2015.

Approximately 0.5 percent of that decline resulted from the company’s July 2016 technology outage, the carrier said.

While not at the level of competitor JetBlue, Southwest has been steadily expanding its presence in the Caribbean, most recently with new daily flights from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau, Bahamas.
