VIDEO: Curaçao’s Buzzing Beach Scene

Even on a hot day, Mambo Beach is effortlessly cool.

It’s a weekday afternoon, and the lounge chairs are filled with sunseekers, travelers are finding some shade in the pool and there’s nary an empty palapa in sight.

The story’s the same on Jan Thiel too, and at the pool-style beach at Papagayo.

The pool-style beach at Papagayo.

That’s because the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao has quietly become the Caribbean’s most buzzing beach scene, home to an almost never-ending supply of hip, bustling, amenity-filled beaches that marry the party vibe of destinations like Ibiza with the classic Caribbean cool.

Whether you’re on Mambo, the beach with more amenities and retail than any other in the Caribbean, or looking for a more rustic beach retreat like Kokomo, there’s a marvelously diverse offering on this island, with a different kind of beach for every kind of beach lover.

But they all have a buzz of their own, a palpable energy that isn’t like any other destination in the region.

In other words, it’s time to find your sand in Curaçao.

It’s Mexico, but it’s also the Caribbean. The Mexican Caribbean is a whole different universe on the western side of the Caribbean Sea, with a different energy, culture and hospitality philosophy. And just as the eastern Caribbean is filled with world-class all-inclusive vacations, the eastern coast of Mexico has some spectacular all-inclusive options of its own, from more traditional large hotels to up-and-coming all-inclusive boutiques. Here are our favorite all-inclusive Mexico resorts to try right now, from the Riviera Maya to Cancun to Playa Mujeres.
