Sandals Just Reopened Both of Its Resorts in Barbados

Sandals Resorts International has completed the reopening of its two all-inclusive Barbados resorts: Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados.

The two resorts officially relaunched this week, meaning the company has now reopened all of its resorts in the Caribbean, with the exception of Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau, which is currently in the midst of a renovation project.

Sandals Barbados has a total of 280 suites, while the adjacent Sandals Royal Barbados has a total of 552 rooms.

The dual-resort complex is home to some unique features for Sandals, including the company’s only rooftop pool and bar and the first-ever Sandals with a four-lane bowling alley, among other touches.

Sandals Royal Barbados is actually getting bigger, with an expansion project set for completion on July 1. That will add 66 new suites to the resort’s South Seas Villas.

Both are located in the St Lawrence Gap on the always-energetic southern coast of Barbados.

“It has been too long since guests have been able to experience our incredible Bajan hospitality at Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados,” Ramel Sobrino, General Manager for Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados, told Caribbean Journal. “The reopening of these two award-winning hotels ahead of the summer season is not just a testament to our industry-leading protocols but to our guests’ continued trust in our brand; and that’s something we never take for granted.”

Sandals was the first major Caribbean resort company to reopen amid the pandemic when it began its regional relaunch in June of last year. That move paved the way for many of the region’s tourism reopening.

“We look forward to welcoming our guests back ‘home’ this week and soon, expanding our footprint with the introduction of our newest suites and wellness-inspired eateries at Sandals Royal Barbados,” Sobrino said.

St Croix’s Buccaneer Resort Is Becoming a Wyndham

The signature resort in the island of St Croix is joining Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The historic Buccaneer Beach and Golf Resort will be converting to Wyndham’s Trademark Collection, the company confirmed this week.

The Buccaneer will be the first-ever Wyndham property in St Croix, and third Wyndham-branded property in the US Virgin Islands, joining the Limetree Beach Resort by Club Wyndham and Margaritaville Vacation Club, both in St Thomas.

The family-owned-and-operated resort is set on 340 acres outside of Christiansted in St Croix.

It’s home to a total of 130 rooms and suites, along with the top golf course in the US Virgin Islands.

The Buccaneer joins two other recent Caribbean additions to the Wyndham portfolio, including the Kunuku Resort All-Inclusive in Curacao and the Turtle Island Beach Resort in Belize.

“Our portfolio of iconic hotel brands offers a wide range of experiences and price points for guests as well as strong opportunities for franchisees and developers,” said Geoffrey A. Ballotti, president and chief executive officer, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “Our global sales, marketing and loyalty teams are looking forward to helping more travelers discover all these new hotels.”

Both of those resorts will also be joining the Trademark Collection by Wyndham.
