How to Travel in Your Own Submarine in the Caribbean

It’s one of the coolest experiences in the Caribbean: Substation Curaçao’s personal submarine rides.

The company’s Curasub offering descends four times a day to travel to depths unreachable for divers.

And it also means that, with no effect of pressure change on the body, even those people who are unfit to dive are almost always allowed to dive with the submarine.

the standard dive takes travelers around 500 feet deep on a 1.5-hour plunge, while the “Deep Dive” takes people to depths of nearly 1,000 feet — beyond the light.

Substation Curacaco even offers a night dive option.

Anguilla’s Must-Visit Reggae Festival: Moonsplash

It’s almost time for one of the Caribbean’s great annual festivals: Moonsplash.

This year will be the 27th annual edition of the iconic Anguilla festival led by music star Bankie Banx, who first conceived of a reggae festival held under a full moon back in 1990.

This year’s festival, which takes place March 9-12, will see two reggae superstars: Christopher Martin and Romain Virgo.

Moonsplash takes place at Banx’s Dune Preserve on the island’s Rendezvous Bay, with a new festival event each night.

The closest hotel to the event is Anguilla’s CuisinArt resort; to book a stay, click here.

Villa Marie: St. Barth’s New Luxe Boutique Hotel

There’s a major new luxury hotel on tiny St. Barth: Villa Marie.

The self styled “tropical chic” five-star property is the brainchild of the Sibuet family, whose Maisons and Hotels Sibuet label is on a host of hotels in the Alps (like Les Fermes de Marie in Megeve and Altapura in Val Thorens) and the South of France (Villa Marie Saint Tropez and La Bastide de Marie in Provence).

And their first Caribbean hotel is a stunner, with 18 unique, colorful villas and bungalows, a lush tropical garden and a “Pure Altitude” Spa that’s a signature of all Sibuet hotels.

The restaurant gets its name from the Francois Plantation that once sat on the site of the Villa Marie, serving classic St. Barth South of France-meets-the-West-Indies fare led by Chef Emmanuel Motte.

And then there’s the bar, with an emphasis on rums from around the Caribbean and Cuban cigars.

In other words, your kind of hotel.
