Puerto Rico governor to argue for statehood in Washington

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, has announced that he will visit Washington, DC, following the victory of statehood in the status referendum held on Sunday on the island, to notify Congress, the White House, and international forums of the results.

This Month’s New Food Festival in Santo Domingo

 

A new food festival has come to the Dominican Republic.

Santo Domingo, one of the Caribbean’s emerging urban destinations, has launched a new culinary festival, SDQ Gastronomico, aimed at raising the city’s profile as a foodie hotspot.

The festival, which lasts from June 13 to July 1, features a series of events including a Restaurant Week, a Food Fest, a number of dinners, a culinary awards show and a flagship dinner on June 14 at the city’s Fortaleza Ozama in the heart of the city’s fabled Colonial Zone.

Another Major New Hotel Is Coming to Grenada

 

Another major new hotel project is coming to the island of Grenada.

The Silversands boutique hotel is slated to debut on the island’s Grand Anse Beach in the spring of 2018.

The property will include 44 suites and nine residential villas anchored by a 100-meter pool billed as the longest in the region.

It’s the second major new project announced this year in Grenada, following the launch of the Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort, Kimpton’s second Caribbean property.

The nine residences will be available for purchase, with five seaside villas and four hillside villas ranging from 13,500 to 26,500 square feet.

The property will also feature a spa with four treatment rooms, a sauna, a hammam, a swimming pool and a gym, along with a private beach club with a resident DJ.

Hyatt Is Expanding in Aruba

 

Hyatt is expanding its footprint among Aruba hotels.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has entered into a management agreement with Pelca Development for a Hyatt Place Hotel within the Aruba Airport Business Center in Oranjestad.

The 116-room hotel will be the island’s first Hyatt Place, adjacent to the Reina Beatrix International Airport. Hyatt already has a Hyatt Regency on the island’s Palm Beach.

“We are delighted to be working with Pelca Development V.B.A. to bring the first Hyatt Place hotel to Aruba,” said Camilo Bolaños, vice president of development and real estate – Latin America and Caribbean, Hyatt. “Hyatt Place hotels combine style, innovation and 24/7 amenities to create a seamless stay with modern comforts. Ease of access and connectivity to Aruba’s business areas and tourist attractions, in addition to convenient proximity to the airport will help establish Hyatt Place Aruba Airport as a preferred lodging option for business and leisure travelers seeking convenience.”

Hyatt Place Aruba Airport will be set on a 2.1-acre mixed-used development also containing 21,000 square feet of office space, along with an 8,000-square-foot food court, retail shops and car rental facilites.

The property is projected to open in late 2018, slated to become the fourth Hyatt place in the Caribbean, and the first in the region outside of Puerto Rico.
