By the Caribbean Journal staff

Spirit’s big Caribbean expansion includes another new route to St Thomas.

The low-cost carrier has now launched its new three-times-weekly flights from Orlando to St Thomas.

The flights, which began operating last week, are part of a wider expansion in Orlando for the carrier, which has made no secret of its plans to ramp up its Caribbean network.

As part of the expansion, Spirit has opened a new crew base in Orlando.

“Orlando is the perfect location for our new crew base and our international expansion,” said Bob Fornaro, Spirit Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer. “We’ve served more than 22 million Guests in our 25 years in Orlando. We’re excited to continue our historic expansion here and to create hundreds of jobs in the community.”

The new flights to St Thomas come after the carrier launched new flights between Fort Lauderdale and St Thomas’ Cyril E. King International Airport in March of this year, an expansion from what had been three flights each week.

The brainchild of Chef Antonio Herrera, the new eatery is based on “contemporary, progressive Japanese culinary concepts,” according to a statement from the property.
