Canadian travel giant Sunwing is adding another new route to Cuba, the company announced in a statement this week.

Beginning Dec. 17, Sunwing will operate a new seasonal flight from Toronto to Cienfuegos on the island’s southern coast.

The flights will operate weekly on Mondays, with flight service running through April 22, 2019, the company said.

“We are very excited to be offering Cienfuegos this winter and to be giving travelers another varied Cuban destination to explore,” said Andrew Dawson, president of tour operations at Sunwing. “From pristine beaches to fascinating culture, we’re sure that Cienfuegos will prove to be a popular addition.”

It’s part of what has been a large-scale expansion of Caribbean flight service for Sunwing in recent months.

St Maarten’s Sonesta Ocean Point to Reopen in December

By the Caribbean Journal staff

The Sonesta Ocean Point in St Maarten has delayed its reopening by one month, a spokesperson for the property told Caribbean Journal this week.

The luxury all-inclusive will now be reopening Dec. 15.

The adults-only property will relaunch with 129 suites, along with four bars, two restaurants and amenities like 24-hour room service and private cabanas.

The relaunch will include an enhanced guest room layout, with larger bathrooms and new furniture, among other changes.

It has been shuttered since Hurricane Irma hit St Maarten last year.

The Ocean Point’s sister hotel, the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, is still on target for a return on Feb. 1, 2019, however.
