Celebrity Edge Makes Its First Trip to the Caribbean

By the Caribbean Journal staff

The highly-anticipated Celebrity Edge cruise ship has launched its first-ever cruise to the Caribbean.

Celebrity Cruises’ new state-of-the-art ship made its first-ever Caribbean call this week with a stop in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“We are grateful to the cruise line for continuing to bet on Puerto Rico as an important port for its Caribbean operations,” said Carla Campos, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

Celebrity Edge has 10 scheduled visits to Puerto Rico over the coming peak cruise season, according to Campos.

That means a projected injection of $2.675 million into the local economy.

“Edge’s presence in San Juan is a testimony to the growth and support that the cruise industry is experiencing on the island,” said Anthony Maceira, executive director of the Ports Authority. “It’s turning us into one of the leading ports in all of the Caribbean region.”
