Turks and Caicos Real Estate Continues to Sizzle

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Turks and Caicos is one of the Caribbean’s most sizzling real estate markets — and it’s a trend that continued last year.

Turks and Caicos saw overall real estate sales volume of just under $256 million, a 9 percent increase compared to 2017.

That’s along with an overall 169 percent increase in sales volume in the last eight years, according to a new report from Turks and Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty.

The overall market was buoyed by the single-family home market, which represented nearly 50 percent of all sales volume, for a total of just over $123 million, up from $111.67 million in 2017.

That included more than 20 home sales over the $3 million mark, including the highest recorded home sale – $7 million — for an existing villa.

Condos at the Palms, Turks and Caicos, saw strong resale growth, according to Sotheby’s.

That included the sales of the Saving Grace villa for $7 million; an Amanyara villa for $6.55 million and a villa at the Shore Club that sold for $5.9 million, among others.

Indeed, the Shore Club, one of the hottest new residential hotels in the region, has already sold out its villa component, according to Sotheby’s.

Several new projects are also on stream.

That includes the first phase of Beach Enclave Long Bay, an expansion of the Beach Enclave brand, along with another new phase, The Club at Beach Enclave Long Bay, which will include four houses and four condo suites within a 20-suite boutique hotel.

It’s all part of what’s shaping up to be the hottest real estate market in the region right now.

By the Caribbean Journal staff

WestJet’s low-cost carrier, Swoop, has completed its newest Mexico flight launches.

The carrier officially began operating its new route from Abbotsford International Airport in Canada to Mazatlan International Airport.

The new service comes after Swoop launched three other new routes this month: new flights to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta out of Hamilton, Ontario, along with service from Abbotsford to Puerto Vallarta.

“Mexico is a popular travel destination for Canadians, with over 1.9 million visitors annually,” said Karen McIsaac, Senior Advisor of Communications at Swoop. “This additional route to Mazatlán complements our Cancun and Puerto Vallartadestinations as top choices to frequent and is the perfect opportunity for travellers to experience choice when it comes to affordable air travel.”

The new Mazatlan flights are running twice per week on Thursdays and Sundays.

Flights from Abbotsford to Puerto Vallarta are running on Mondays and Saturdays, while Hamilton-Puerto Vallarta flights are running on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The flights to Cancun are operating on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Riu Expands Pool Parties to Punta Cana

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Riu has taken its Pool Party concept to the heart of Punta Cana.

The global all-inclusive giant has expanded its adults-only event concept to a spot opposite Punta Cana’s Riu Bambu hotel in the Dominican Republic.

The weekly events consist of themed parties with live music, international DJs, stages and four bars, including poolside and snack bars.

Guests at five Riu properties in Punta Cana will have access to the parties, including the Riu Bambu, Riu Naiboa, Riu Palace Bavaro, Riu Palace Macao and Riu Palace Punta Cana, the company said.

The concept will include four different parties, from a Greek-style White Party to something called a “Jungle Party” with “adventure” themes.

The concept was first launched at the Riu Santa Fe in Mexico last year.
