Puerto Rico’s San Juan Marriott Resort has a new look.

The property, set in the Condado area of San Juan, has completed a $20 million renovation project spearheaded by XLD Group.

The new look ranges from wood-look tile floors to new walk-in showers to new design accents and new balconies.

Vibrantly colored decorations blend harmoniously with gray-shaded walls and draperies, while abundant natural light brings the whole setting alive before an amazing backdrop of fantastic tropical views,” the property said.

Each room includes new details like IPTV, wireless charging lamps for smart devices and optimized work devices.

The renovation, which involved 123 rooms and suites, also included Gingambo, the hotel’s signature eatery.

The Marriott has additionally renovated its Ocean Club Spa and Wellness Center.

By the Caribbean Journal staff

American Airlines is adding a new route to what has quickly become one of the hottest destinations in the Caribbean: Santo Domingo.

The Dominican Republic’s capital has been seeing a huge wave of new flights, as the country looks to position the energetic city as a new tourism hub.

American’s newest Caribbean route will operate from Charlotte, with plans to launch service in June.

Charlotte is American’s second-biggest hub, and the new Santo Domingo route comes as AA has rapidly expanded its Caribbean offering from the city, including new routes to both Eleuthera and Marsh Harbour in The Bahamas at the end of 2018.

“With new gates opening at the end of this year, increases in frequencies on popular routes, new international service and a renovated Admirals Club, there’s so much to look forward to in Charlotte,” said Vasu Raja, Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning for American. “We’ll continue to be the best airline with the most choices in Charlotte for business and leisure customers.”

Santo Domingo, home to one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful historic quarters, the Colonial Zone, has emerged as a leading urban getaway in the region.

That has attracted new routes from a host of carriers in the last year, including JetBlue and United, among others.

American Airlines also ramped up its daily flights from Miami to Santo Domingo in December.

It’s all a huge boost for the capital, which is home to a number of ultra-stylish hotels, from the Casas del XVI and the Billini Hotel to the state-of-the-art JW Marriott in the capital’s commercial center.

Palladium Debuts New All-Inclusive Complex in Costa Mujeres

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Palladium Hotel Group has officially debuted its newest all-inclusive hotels on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.

The company held the grand opening for the new 1,139-room TRS Coral Hotel and Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort and Spa complex this week.

The TRS Coral, now part of Leading Hotels of the World, is an adults-only resort, with 469 rooms.

Guests at the TRS Coral get everything from personal butlers to 24-hour room service, access to four a la carte eateries, and what the property calls an “Ibiza-style” beach club.

The Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort and Spa, a family-friendly property, has 670 rooms, along with nine eateries of its own, a range of activities on offer and a 15,995-square-foot convention center and the Zentropia Palladium Spa.

The combined complex saw an investment of $280 million by Palladium, according a statement from the company.

It’s also home to a central amenity called “The Village,” which features restaurants, bars, children’s clubs, amphitheaters and chapels.

Most notably, the project includes the new Rafa Nadal Tennis Center, the first tennis center by the legendary athlete outside of his original center in Mallorca.

Rafael Nadal was on hand for the opening of the new center.

“The alliance of Palladium Hotel Group with Rafa Nadal for the launch of Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre is further evidence that the company has long focused on achieving differentiation, always with the goal of being the best,” said Palladium Hotel Group CEO CEO Abel Matutes. “Additionally, it should be noted that, in particular with the Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts brand, we had long given much importance to sports, and effectively enhancing sports facilities. Having the opportunity to work with Rafa Nadal is a source of pride because in addition to being the best tennis player, the values he represents, transmits and inculcates are impeccable.”

The new TRS and Grand Palladium hotels are part of a broader Caribbean expansion for Palladium, which opened a new TRS-branded resort in Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic last fall.

Costa Mujeres is set at the northernmost point in Cancun, and thanks to its relative lack of development has become a hub for hotel development.

That includes a pair of new Riu-branded hotels, the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres and the Riu Dunamar.
