Helping Abaco, One Bottle of Rum at a Time

As Abaco continues to work on its recovery from the impact of Hurricane Dorian, there’s a new way to chip in.

Rum company Papa’s Pilar has partnered with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation to create “Papa’s Pilar Relief & Rebuild,” a program to raise awareness for and support relief efforts in the Abaco Islands of The Bahamas that were devastated by Hurricane Dorian.

For every bottle of Papa’s Pilar Blonde and Dark Rum sold within Florida, Papa’s Pilar said it would donate $5 and $10 respectively to support the relief and rebuilding of the Abacos.

“Papa’s Pilar is inspired by Ernest Hemingway and strives to support causes that carry on his legacy,” said Mike Myatt, Papa’s Pilar Chief Communities & Conservation Officer. “We have a deep connection to the Abaco Islands’ people and culture, and through our program with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, we hope to support those affected by the horrific devastation of Hurricane Dorian as they begin to rebuild their lives, homes and businesses.”

In addition to the donation program running through 2019, Papa’s Pilar and Guy Harvey will be working with relief partners to develop an ongoing recovery and rebuilding program for the Abaco Islands in 2020 and beyond.

“The Bahamas, including the Abaco Islands, are true treasures, both ecologically and culturally,” said Guy Harvey. “Being from the Caribbean and having dealt with powerful storms like Dorian, I know first-hand that it will take a conjoined effort to rebuild these communities, and we are happy to partner with Papa’s Pilar to make a significant, positive difference.”

In Barbados, The Perfect Combination Vacation

Sure, a week at a beach resort in Barbados is one of the region’s ultimate getaways.

But what if you spent the week at two resorts?

That’s the beauty of UNNA Resort’s pair of properties in the northwestern edge of Barbados: Saint Peter’s Bay and Port Ferdinand.

Port Ferdinand is home to the island’s most beautiful marina, a sleek, modern, luxe retreat that’s as much your own private club as it is a resort. And from an overwater pool to the only Nikki Beach in the English-speaking Caribbean, it’s a true standout.

The other is Saint Peter’s Bay, the perfect beach resort, a boutique villa resort that marries grand luxury with barefoot elegance.

And the best part? A short boat ride separates them, one you can conveniently take and enjoy the amenities of both resorts, no matter which one your staying at at the time.

An All-Inclusive Luxury Villa in Virgin Gorda

One of the BVI’s signature luxury villas is back.

Virgin Gorda’s Valley Trunk villa, which had been shuttered since Hurricane Irma in 2017, has reopened following a complete restoration and renovation project.

The 10-suite compound, set on 19 acres in the hills above Virgin Gorda, has amenities including a pool, a cinema, a tennis court and room for up to 20 people at a time.

The best part? It’s all-inclusive, meaning every stay comes with meals prepared by a “world-class chef,” along with beverages and alcohol, along with inclusions like tennis, mountain bikes, airport transfers and laundry service.

Valley Trunk’s signature edifice, the gathering space called Bali House, will reopen next year.

The building, which was the centerpiece of the former Valley Trunk, was reproduced in Bali based on the original structure’s blueprints and shipped to Virgin Gorda, where it is being reassembled.
