Marriott Taps Alma as New Social Agency for the Caribbean

Marriott International has tapped Miami-based Alma as its new social media agency.

Alma, which is based in Miami’s Coconut Grove, will be leading the company’s multilingual and multicultural social media strategy in the wider region.

The award-winning agency is part of DDB Latina.

“We are incredibly excited about the opportunity to work with alma and are confident that they will help us stay at the cutting edge of social and add strategic value to the organization,” said Dylan Ellsworth, Director of Social Media Strategy for the Americas at Marriott International.

Alma will be managing social media across Marriott’s 21 different brands in the region, from Ritz-Carlton to W.

Marriott has been on an expansion push in the wider Caribbean region of late, particularly in the increasingly competitive all-inclusive space.

“We feel honored to collaborate with a leading brand such as Marriott International,” said Isaac Mizrahi, COO and Co-President of alma. “We believe in unlocking culture to uncover deep insights that the brand can leverage to engage guests — and we believe this approach will help Marriott International achieve their creative and business goals in the region.”

The two companies said their first collaboration was projected for the first quarter of this year.

Hilton Is Opening a New Caribbean Resort in St Kitts

Hilton has been rapidly expanding its footprint in the Caribbean, and its latest resort in the region will debut on the island of St Kitts.

The highly-anticipated Koi Resort will open this month under Hilton’s Curio Collection brand, according to St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris.

It’s the first-ever Hilton-branded resort in St Kitts and Nevis.

Koi is already taking reservations for stays as early as Jan. 10, according to the Hilton Web site.

The resort, which is adjacent to the popular Royal St Kitts Golf Course, will include 102 rooms and suites, along with amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi, the Asian-fusion eatery Koi Restaurant; the Jaya Kitchen and Bar; a pool; a full-service spa, a fitness center and meeting space for up to 300 guests.

“There is keen interest by developers to operate luxury branded hotels in St. Kitts and Nevis,” Harris said this week in a statement.

Indeed, St Kitts has quietly become one of the hottest luxury hotel destinations in the wider Caribbean region, from the celebrated Park Hyatt St Kitts in the island’s luxe Christophe Harbour development to the eco-luxe Belle Mont Farm in the north of the island.

The opening is part of a wider hotel boom for St Kitts, which is slated to see at least 700 new hotel rooms open in 2020, Harris said.

That will also include the island’s new Ramada Hotel, along with the new T-Loft at Wyndham project and the Sea View hotel in West Basseterre.

The latter is slated to open in the first half of 2020.

It’s all part of what has been a full-fledged tourism renaissance in St Kitts, which has been seeing surging arrivals and a wave of new flights to the destination from carriers like American Airlines and upstart carriers like Sun Country Airlines.

Antigua’s Galley Bay, an Enchanting Caribbean Adults-Only Resort

This is a beautiful place.

You keep saying it to yourself as you ride your bike along the path, or stroll across the lagoon, or marvel at the old sugar mill.

There’s just something enchanting about Galley Bay, the legendary adults-only, all-inclusive resort in the northwest of Antigua.

There’s a pervasive sense of calm, of quiet.

Yes, it’s an all-inclusive, but what’s also included is unmatched serenity — the feeling that you have found someplace special.

And that’s particularly true on the beach itself, a stunning stretch of almost impossibly white sand, made more delightful by the fact that the vast majority of the rooms are set right on it.

The resort is set between a lagoon and the beach.

That’s something that’s not all that common these days in the Caribbean: the true toes-in-the-sand experience, where you can walk right out of your room and step right onto the beach.

And if you’re not on the beach, you can stay in one of the Gauguin Cottages, the exotic, ultra-private units with their own plunge pools named for the legendary painter who once sojourned with his brush in the Caribbean.

And no matter where you’re staying, you immediately fall into your ritual: a morning stroll or ride; a few hours at the pool; lunch at one of the al fresco eateries at the property; a massage at the sublime spa.

And wherever you are, you’re surrounded by the scenery, or one of the many Caribbean birds that make their home here in the gardens; or the gentle waves of the palms.

It’s the ultimate toes-in-the-sand all-inclusive.

It’s all intoxicating, more than tastings at the rum shack or rum punches at Ismay’s.

And no matter where you go, you’re never far from the beach.

Because that’s Galley Bay, a place where there’s nothing ever standing in the way of you and overwhelming natural beauty.

Top Dominica Eco-Hotel to Reopen in February

Dominica’s Rosalie Bay Resort, long one of the island’s leading eco-hotels, is set for a comeback.

The boutique hotel will reopen its doors Feb. 1, according to Rosalie Bay’s Web site.

Rosalie Bay had been shuttered since Hurricane Maria in 2017; its reopening continues a wave of new hotels and reopenings in Dominica, from last year’s relaunch of the Jungle Bay resort to the recent debut of Kempinski’s first Caribbean resort.

They’ve all helped lead Dominica to a full-fledged tourism resurgence.

The hotel, set on Dominica’s lush Atlantic coast, has 28 rooms and suites powered by wind and solar power.

That’s along with a riverfront spa, a locally-focused eatery and even signature experiences like sea turtle nesting and hatching.
