There’s a new place to stay on the beach on the island of Anguilla.
The new Tranquility Beach Anguilla has officially opened on the island’s Meads Bay Beach.
The new-build property has a total of 15 units ranging from one to three bedrooms.
“We are pleased to be the ‘brand new’ luxury property on Meads Bay,” said Neil Freeman, developer of the resort and the chairman and CEO of Aries Capital. “You can walk to every place you want to visit and save the extra expense of a taxi or rental car.”
The property includes serviced beach chairs, massage treatments on offer, a concierge, a gym, an on-site boutique and close proximity to watersports rentals.
Every unit has its own outdoor terrace with a private hot-cold tub, while all of the units open up to the sea and sunset views.
“We’ve created a fresh and modern oasis that showcases Meads Bay and caters to individuals, couples, families and groups who prefer the hospitality of a more intimate beachfront property,” said Ian Edwards, who designed the property.”
Puerto Rico, like its people, is warm, hospitable and resilient.
A melting pot of Spanish, Taino Indian and African cultures, cuisine and breathtaking nature leaves travelers breathless, and yet, whether it’s your first or tenth time visiting, the island always feels like home.
The seismic activity that recently occurred has left many wondering about its effect on tourism in Puerto Rico.
After Governor Wanda Vázquez declared a state of emergency, as a precaution to ensure resources such as FEMA and the National Guard were deployed to support areas in the southern region, the public had many questions.
My team at Discover Puerto Rico, the island’s Destination Marketing Organization, experienced many inquiries from travelers, all of them ultimately begging the question – “Is Puerto Rico open for tourists?”
Unwavering, our answer remains and is, yes.
After the seismic activity, the island saw no significant disruptions to tourism as most areas outside the southern region of the island were not structurally impacted.
Unfortunately, in the south, there were two tourism sites, Punta Ventana in Guayanilla and the Ruins of the Lighthouse in Guánica that were damaged.
Out of 160 hotels endorsed by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) throughout the island, only the Copamarina Beach Resort in Guánica and the Costa Bahía Hotel in Guayanilla are working on repairing damages, all others are hosting visitors.
Following the natural disturbances, 99 percent of power has been restored to those who initially lost it, flights are operating normally to/from the San Juan, Ponce and Aguadilla airports and all major hotels are open and welcoming guests.
In the days that followed the seismic activity, we welcomed 56,000 cruise passengers into our San Juan Port who had the chance to explore the vibrant, cobble stoned streets of Old San Juan.
The tourism industry accounts for close to 80,000 jobs across 17 different sectors and 6.5% of the economy’s GDP. We stand in solidarity with impacted communities recovering in the southern region and are confident that the tourism industry will support the recuperation of those areas. In 2019, tourism in Puerto Rico broke boundaries with real results that impacted the local economy.
The island welcomed over 4 million visitors and had a 55 percent increase in tourism demand. Total lodging inventory increased 3.4 percent and air access is currently at a 10-year high with a projection of over 5 million inbound seats. There are even new and exciting offerings including the farm-to-table movement and a bustling, soon to be open, entertainment complex.
We are encouraging people to show their support by traveling to the Island for their vacations, work trips, meetings, conferences and events. With offerings for every type of traveler, we urge visitors to enjoy the Island’s eclectic culture, gastronomy and unbeatable attractions. Our beaches, restaurants, hotels and travel service providers across the Island are open and ready to welcome visitors.
The Ponce Cruise Port, the Puerto Rico Convention Center, and major attractions such as El Morro, El Yunque, and San Cristobal Fort, continue to be open for business.
Travelers with questions about their personal itineraries should reach out to their specific travel providers, hotels and other businesses to confirm details of their operations.
The island is filled with wonderful and resilient people who have hospitality in their DNA. If we are to continue the tourism boom we saw in 2019, and drive the economy of local communities, we need to ensure potential visitors know that Puerto Rico is open for tourism, and with good reason.
There is much to explore in every part of Puerto Rico.
With this, we invite you to come eat with us, dance with us and experience the unique beauty and warmth of our people.

As the interior designers for the entire project our vision was to surprise the guests wherever possible and aim for them to expect the unexpected at every space they enter.
Our intention was to incorporate nature in all areas and bring an array of colors to the resort adding local influences.
Our concept encompassed the “Eco-Chic” spirit, surrounded by minimalist architecture.
Unlike any other Club Med in the world, Miches has integrated four main villages, each of them with its own theme.
These unique atmospheres allow guests to experience and discover four unique worlds within one resort. They are Explorer Cove, Emerald Jungle, Caribbean Paradise and Archipelago.
The Village Centre is at the heart of the four themes: it is a culmination of the four Villages bringing together the amazing Club Med Spirit. Colour and textures are celebrated linking the themes from the four other villages. The reception theme is called “Lost Paradise” and the restaurants include themes named “Emerald Paradise,” “Underwater Mansion” and “The Last Crusade” mixing the themes of Paradise, with the water and with exploration.
Explorer Cove For the Explorer Cove zone we were inspired by a time of exploration in the Caribbean on both the land and sea. We included references to maps and navigation, and rope from sunken ships. Subtle references to snakes for example in the bathrooms there are tiles designed with inspiration from snake skins.
Emerald Jungle The Dominican Republic is a natural wonder of the Caribbean. There are hundreds of rivers, streams and waterfalls. It has over 10,000 species of flowering plants and 172 species of birds. We were naturally fascinated by the wildlife and that is how we became inspired to bring the materials and textures to this area.
Deep Emerald Green is our main color, with many other green and earthy nuances. Rippling textures, woods, ceramics and patterns are all inspired by the local jungle and wildlife.
The Spa treatments rooms and the Yoga Retreat are surrounded by nature. The design is simple with a luxurious feel with views directly to the jungle allowing the experience to be totally unique.
Carved wooden screens and perforated walls create an intriguing interplay between darkness, shadow and light. Traditional potted plants are found inside the Spa.
Guests can enjoy the full nature experience in this Village with the rooms on stilts they can be totally submerged in the jungle.
Caribbean Paradise In this Village Club Med guests are immersed in an authentic, unconventional and unusual paradise. They will be able to experience being inside a tropical garden.
As well as being inspired by local tropical gardens we were also inspired by the the fun and vibrancy of Caribbean carnivals.
The interior architecture of the area will be simple and modern to reflect the present. The soft furnishes are colourful, emulating the vibrant colours of local tropical fruits and flowers and the carnival costumes. The local cultural and architectural elements are being introduced through patterns, textures, ceramics, woods and natural weaves.
“Paradise” is emphasized here, giving that feeling of a totally tropical paradise garden on the beach.
Archipelago We based our inspiration here from the richness of the Caribbean sea-life. Romantic and cozy, the private villas allow guests to enjoy a secluded and luxurious atmosphere.
The concept of the coral reef is brought into our design through colour and texture, since the coral reefs are considered as one the most important geographical features of the Caribbean Sea. Shades of blues and whites representing the freshness of the sea.
Legendary golfer and course designer Jack Nicklaus has launched a new residence club, and its first phase will include several locations in The Bahamas.
Nicklaus, who designed Nassau’s Royal Blue golf club at the Baha Mar, will have two locations for his residence club program: a property called 36 on Paradise Island, and a property called Ocean Terrace on West Bay Street near Caves Heights.
“I’ve spent the majority of my life traveling around the world, playing golf, designing golf courses, and experiencing a variety of destinations,” Nicklaus said. “I appreciate the importance of quality lodging and first-class service as complements to good golf. The industry continues to evolve for those who seek premier residences in ideal destinations, and we believe this is a natural fit as we expand the Nicklaus lifestyle brand.”
The 36 luxury residences project on Paradise Island.
The program will be what Nicklaus Companies call an “innovative, income-generating residence club model,” that lets members stay in luxury vacation condos and homes around the world.
“The Jack Nicklaus Residence Club will be showcasing Nicklaus-designed golf courses around the globe, providing families and golf groups many beautiful, exciting, and exotic locations to explore,” VRP Equities President, Craig Williamson explained. “The clubs will feature ultra-luxury homes with stellar amenities, located in the most popular vacation areas around the globe.”
