The Park Hyatt St Kitts Is Reopening in November

One of the Caribbean’s most celebrated luxury resorts is making its return in November, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The Park Hyatt St Kitts will be reopening to guests on Nov. 1, the property confirmed.

The reopening comes as St Kitts and Nevis is set to reopen its borders to international tourism on Oct. 31.

“With safety and wellbeing in mind, we are listening to our guests and colleagues and working to implement new experiences that will help reimagine the Park Hyatt St. Kitts journey,” said Marc Schneider, General Manager of the Park. Hyatt St Kitts. “The most important element of welcoming back guests is doing it safely, and we are going beyond cleaning to advance care across our entire hotel experience for guests, World of Hyatt loyalty members and colleagues.”

The property, which is the only Park Hyatt resort in the wider Caribbean region, is relaunching under Hyatt’s recently-announced Global Care and Cleanliness Commitment, the product of consultations between Hyatt, the Cleveland Clinic and other “trusted industry advisors.”

That includes everything from enhanced digital amenities on the World of Hyatt App to a focus on “the luxury of space,” with reimagined on and off-property experiences from yoga to private excursions.

The Park Hyatt St Kitts was named Caribbean Hotel of the Year in 2018 in the Caribbean Travel Awards, just a year after opening for the first time.

The resort was the first Caribbean project for Range Developments, the company behind the new Kempinski and Dominica and the in-development Six Senses Grenada.

TUI Returns to Saint Lucia

Travel company TUI has made its return to Saint Lucia.

The travel giant has resumed weekly direct flights from London Gatwick to Saint Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport.

The flights will run through March 2021, according to Saint Lucia tourism officials.

The first flight this week brought 182 passengers and crew to Saint Lucia.

“We want to thank our people again for their continued commitment to maintaining our Covid-19 protocols. It’s not an easy task but it’s necessary and is one of the reasons why major travel brands such as TUI support Saint Lucia year after year, even in these most challenging times,” said Saint Lucia Minister of Tourism Dominic Fedee. “Our international visitors have now come to understand the importance of our health measures and checks when they visit us. We know that they choose Saint Lucia because they feel safe and of course they are going to have a great time.”

On Nov. 5, TUI will launch a second weekly flight to the UK, with service out of Manchester to Saint Lucia.

Secrets St Martin Resort to Reopen in November

St Martin’s newest all-inclusive resort is reopening its doors in November, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The Secrets St Martin resort, set on Anse Marcel in St Martin, will relaunch operations on Nov. 13, according to Secrets.

The AMResorts property is currently taking reservations for stays beginning on that date.

Secrets St Martin had just opened its doors for the first time at the beginning of March before quickly having to shutter due to the pandemic.

The French side of St Martin quietly reopened its borders to international travelers last month; all visitors must comply with the visitor requirements at St Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport.

JetBlue Is Adding a New Caribbean Destination: Guyana

JetBlue is set to launch its newest route to the broader Caribbean on Dec. 11, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The New York City-based carrier is launching its first-ever service from New York to Guyana, with flights up to four times each week on JetBlue’s Airbus A321neo flights.

Guyana set at the northern tip of South America, is the seat of CARICOM, the Caribbean Community.

“JetBlue is a leading airline in Latin America and the Caribbean and we remain committed to expanding our route map to Guyana as demand returns and border restrictions ease across the region,” said Andrea Lusso, vice president route planning. “Guyana service introduces a diverse and underserved destination to the JetBlue route map, and a very important one for New York City. Our nonstop service will benefit a variety of travelers – especially those visiting friends and relatives – and provide our industry-leading experience to travelers this holiday season.”

The airline’s newest nonstop route to the region takes about five hours in the air.

Guyana’s becomes the carrier’s 40th destination in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Prior to the pandemic, Guyana had been seeing steady growth in its tourism sector, buoyed by new hotel investment in the capital, Georgetown, and increased awareness of the country’s strong eco-tourism offerings.

In a statement, the carrier said the new route was made possible by the A321neo’s “extended range and fuel efficiency.”

Indeed, at five hours, it’s one of the carrier’s longest routes.

The route had initially been scheduled to launch in September of last year.
