The Most Exciting New Hotel in Jamaica Is Open

The most exciting new hotel to launch in Jamaica in years is open and welcoming guests, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Eclipse at Half Moon, the major new luxury resort set at the island’s iconic Half Moon resort, has relaunched.

The property had just opened prior to the onset of the pandemic, and on Nov. 1 began welcoming guests once again.

“Half Moon is a preferred destination for discerning travelers, who seek the luxury of space and privacy,” Guy Steuart, Chairman of Half Moon, told Caribbean Journal. “Along with our meticulous health and safety protocols, thoughtfully designed accommodations, and luxury amenities, our team is looking forward to providing their award-winning service that will ensure our guests have either found or rediscovered their perfect getaway.”

The luxury resort has a total of 57 rooms, along with a centerpiece infinity pool; seven bars and restaurants and a natural swimming cove, among other amenities.

Guests have access to all of the amenities on the Half Moon campus.

Half Moon had reopened its Rose Hall Villas resort in early June; those remain open, as does the property’s signature Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course, often dubbed the “Caribbean Augusta.”

Half Moon’s Founders Cove resort, along with its signature Sugar Mill restaurant, will be reopening Dec. 15, a spokesperson for the property said.

Jamaica has been open for tourism since mid-June. You can find more on the island’s travel protocols here.

Caribbean Airline LIAT Returns to Flying

After being shuttered for months, regional Caribbean carrier LIAT has returned to flying.

The carrier operated its first daily flight from Antigua to Dominica on Nov. 1.

The airline will be operating a limited schedule this month after suspending services in April 2020 due to the impact of the pandemic.

The airline is currently under administration.

In a statement, LIAT said it was being “restructured to improve its viability and sustainability following a decision by the government of Antigua and Barbuda to reorganize the airline.”

LIAT said it was currently completing training and regulatory requirements for the territories it will be flying to.

Those destinations will likely be announced later this week.

How to Travel to The Bahamas Right Now

The Bahamas has entered a new phase of its tourism reopening — and the country’s mandatory vacation-in-place requirement has been waived.

The Bahama’s new travel protocols officially took effect this weekend: all travelers need to obtain a negative PCR test five days prior to arrival and apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa (you can find it here).

For travelers who stay five days or longer, a Rapid Antigen Test is required on Day 5 of their trip (that doesn’t apply for those departing on day 5).

All travelers have to wear masks and always social distance in public spaces during their stay.

Beginning Nov. 14, all visitors to The Bahamas will have to opt-in to mandatory COVID-19 health insurance when applying for their Travel Health Visa. The insurance will cover travelers for the duration of their stay in The Bahamas.

The PCR testing requirement does not include children age 10 and under or pilots and crew of commercial airlines who remain overnight in The Bahamas.

The cost of a Bahamas Travel Health Visa is free for children 10 and under, and starts at $40, rising to $60 for trips longer than four nights, according tourism officials.

“The Bahamas has remained diligent in its efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19 throughout the islands, and these measures are imperative to ensure that remains the case,” The Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism said in a statement. “The health and wellbeing of both residents and visitors remain the number one priority of public health officials. It is important to note, however, that due to fluidity of the COVID-19 situation, both in The Bahamas and worldwide, protocols are subject to change.”

Curaçao Expands Reopening to Travelers From Florida

Curaçao has expanded its reopening to United States travelers, adding a fourth state to its list of approved source markets: Florida.

Florida joins a trio of Northeastern states that had been approved for travel to the Dutch Caribbean island: New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

All travelers from the four aforementioned states need to present a state-issued ID as proof of residency prior to arrival.

All travelers to Curaçao also have to complete a digital immigration card; show a negative result from a PCR test taken a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure at an accredited laboratory.

Travelers also need to fill out and print a Passenger Locator Card (you can find more on the island’s protocols here).
