The Bahamas’ Bimini Big Game Club Is Open Again

One of the Caribbean’s top adventure hotels has officially returned, Caribbean Journal can confirm.

The Bahamas’ Bimini Big Game Club, long one of the region’s top destinations for sport fishing and diving, officially reopened its doors last week on the island of Bimini.

The hotel, which first opened in the 1930s, is famous for hosting the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr on several of his visits to the island.

Caribbean Airlines Launches Guyana-Cuba Flights

Caribbean Airlines has continued its 2020 expansion with a new weekly route between Guyana and Cuba.

The weekly flights between Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport and Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport will operate on Saturdays. 

The service, which began this week, will transit via Trinidad. per civil aviation requirements. 

Passengers will not disembark the aircraft, however.

JetBlue Just Launched a New Flight to St Maarten

JetBlue has launched its newest service to the Caribbean with a new route from Newark to St Maarten, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The new route, which kicked off this week, is operating weekly on Saturdays.

“We are very happy to see another JetBlue gateway open to St. Maarten with Newark. This has been an ongoing relationship dating back to 2008 with our first flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport. With four gateways now servicing St. Maarten, it shows the confidence JetBlue has in the destination and we look forward to the continuous hard work and great working relationship that we’ve fostered,” STB Director May-Ling Chun said.

The Newark-St Maarten launch comes amid a broader Caribbean expansion for JetBlue that includes recently-launched service from Raleigh-Durham to both San Juan and Montego Bay.

Next month, JetBlue will launch another new route, with the carrier’s first-ever service to Guyana.

St Maarten has been open for tourism since the summer.

The destination’s travel protocols include the requirement of a negative PCR test result received within 120 hours prior to departure.

This week, the destination announced a new option for travelers: a negative rapid antigen test taken from a naso-pharyngeal swab performed within 48 hours of the date of swab to departure.

The Bahamas’ Cape Eleuthera Resort Is Reopening

Cape Eleuthera, the signature resort on the southern end of Eleuthera, is reopening in December, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The property will officially relaunch for guests on Dec. 18, General Manager Chris Morris confirmed.

The property has received the Bahamian government’s “Clean & Pristine” safety designation.

“Cape Eleuthera is a quiet piece of paradise with private beaches and no crowds. ‘Social distancing’ is in our DNA, and we offer a variety of activities for our guests to create their own vacation experience,” Morris said. “Whether looking for a long weekend, a week-long vacation with the family or a monthly getaway while working virtually, we have accommodations and offers to get you here.”

The property is a mix of two-bedroom marina villas, along with a collection of one-bedroom cottages.

The property’s marina can accommodate vessels of up to 200 feet; it’s also home to a provisions store, the Harbour Pointe restaurant and a boat rental outfit.

Oh, and a spectacular sandbar just off the coast.
