It’s a Caribbean destination that has quietly been surging in recent years, both with visitors and new hotel development: Cartagena on the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
And now the city anchored by one of the region’s most charming urban destinations has another new brand: the Nácar Hotel Cartagena, the first-ever Curio Collection by Hilton in the city.
“We are delighted to welcome Nácar Hotel Cartagena to Curio Collection and to be part of the portfolio of more than 90 unmatched hotels around the world,” said Jenna Hackett, Global Director of Curio Collection by Hilton. “Part of the experience of Curio Collection is encouraging our guests to feel a local wonder as they explore the hotel and its surroundings, which makes Cartagena a perfect option to continue our expansion of this unique brand.”
The hotel, operated by oxoHotel [sic], is set across two towers in the historic city.
“Nácar Hotel Cartagena, Curio Collection by Hilton combines the best of personalized service and international gastronomy in a spectacular property,” said Laura Rodriguez, general manager of the Nacar Hotel Cartagena, Curio Collection by Hilton.
The property has a total of 49 rooms, along with two eateries: Madreperla and Fresco.
Hilton said the hotel has been “reborn,” with the Curio brand; the property has also relaunched under Hilton’s CleanStay health and safety program amid the new realities of travel.
“Hilton is a globally recognized partner and at oxoHotel we are pleased to partner with them to bring the Curio Collection by Hilton brand to the Historic Center of Cartagena de Indias for the first time,” said Juan Carlos Galindo, CEO of oxoHotel.

The Bahamas’ Baha Mar megaresort has made its long-awaited return, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The resort complex on Cable Beach in Nassau has reopened the first of its three hotel properties, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar.
The property’s other two resorts, Rosewood Baha Mar and SLS Baha Mar, will be reopening in 2021, according to the company.
The reopening comes after The Bahamas’ other megaresort, Atlantis Paradise Island, reopened to visitors.

The reopening “marks a significant milestone in the revitalization of international travel and return of our guests, to The Caribbean and The Bahamas,” said Graeme Davis, President, Baha Mar. “When faced with uncertainty and hardship this year, the Baha Mar team looked ahead towards a bright future, and because of their perseverance and strength, we are opening our doors today and welcoming travelers back to the beloved Bahamas. We are humbled by the tremendous support of our guests and look forward to honoring this monumental occasion with the entire Baha Mar community.”
So what’s actually open?
The Baha Mar Casino is open, as are restaurants including Katsuya, Fi’lia, 3 Tides Fish House, Stix Noodle Bar, Drift and Carna by Dario Cecchini.
The Baha Mar’s Jack Nicklaus-designed Royal Blue golf course, and its nine-court Racquet Club, are both open, too, along with a new 18-hole mini golf course called Mini Blue.

The resort’s Explorers Club kids club is open, as is the ESPA spa, along with the Current art gallery.
The Baha Mar’s reopening comes with “heightened health and safety measures in place,” according to the property.
The centerpiece is a requirement that all guests to take a rapid (and complimentary) Antigen Test during the check-in process. (That’s in addition to The Bahamas’ entry protocols, which require a negative test result within five days before arrival in the country).
The reopening comes after The Bahamas last month entered a new phase of its tourism reopening that paved the way for the relaunch of major hotels and resorts.
