The Caribbean destination is the number six trending destination for New Year’s this season, with a 25 percent jump in travel demand compared to the same period last year.

That included travel research from January 2018 through August 2018.

“This continued positive news from the marketplace is wonderful validation of the hard work we have been doing to constantly upgrade and market our destination and its offerings,” said US Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty. “The tourism sector is crucial to our economy and we look forward to a strong winter season and welcoming all those who are coming to celebrate New Year’s Eve here.”

It’s the latest strong indicator for the USVI, following Airbnb’s recent announcement that the island of St Thomas led the Caribbean in growth year over year.

It’s an interesting performance for Tulum, which has traditionally been known for its broad collection of boutique hotels and resorts, not its vacation rentals.

Tulum is joined in the Caribbean by the Colombian city of Cartagena, which has seen 71 percent growth in New Year’s bookings.

The most trending New Year’s Eve destinations were released in a report called “where Airbnb travelers are ringing in 2019.”
