Princess Cruises Debuts Major New Ship

Princess Cruises has officially taken delivery of a major new cruise ship that will soon be heading to the Caribbean.

The new Sky Princess cruise ship is the first Princess ship built from the ground up as one of its new MedallionClass smart-platform ships.

The handover ceremony was held at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Italy this week.

The MedallionClass includes everything from expedited arrival, smart devices for on-demand services and even ways to locate your family and friends.

The 3,660-guest ship will launch in Europe before heading to the Caribbean on Dec. 1.

It shares amenities with newer Princess ships like Regal Princess, Royal Princess and Majestic Princess, with amenities like the Phantom Bridge; the only jazz theater at sea and the company’s new Sky Suites.

“We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to our long-time shipbuilding partner Fincantieri who delivered Sky Princess to us today,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “As our new flagship in the fleet, Sky Princess represents the absolute best Princess Cruises has to offer our guests by connecting them with what matters most, unique destinations, loved ones, and new friends, while enjoying all the state-of the-art experiences in comfort and style.”

Princess Cruises is in the midst of a fleet expansion project that will also see the debut of four more ships by 2025, with Enchanted Princess next in line with a planned June 2020 launch.

Carnival Is Adding Another Cruise Ship in Galveston

Carnival Cruise Line is adding another new cruise ship in Galveston, the company said this week.

Carnival will be adding its Carnival Radiance ship to Texas in May 2021, joining three other ships that will be homeported in Galveston all year round.

Radiance will join Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream and Carnival Vista.

The four ships will combine to carry around 900,000 cruise passengers each year from Galveston, the most of any cruise line.

“Carnival is already the most popular cruise line from Galveston attracting vacationers from all across the Southwest and beyond. With these enhancements, we’re providing our guests with more voyages, more destinations and more choices from Texas than ever before,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Radiance will be sailing cruises to the Caribbean ranging from five to 14 days, beginning May 14, 2021.

The ship will be undergoing a $200 million renovation project next year that will add all of Carnival’s newest cruise ship concepts, from Guy Fieri’s Guy’s Pig and Anchor smokehouse to the first Big Chicken eatery by Shaquille O’Neal.

“As North America’s fourth busiest cruise port, the Port of Galveston is pleased to welcome the Carnival Radiance. Since Carnival made Galveston its homeport almost 20 years ago, more than 7.5 million Carnival Cruise Line passengers have embarked from our wharves,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves CEO and Port Director. “As we grow, we’ll continue to focus on delivering great service to Carnival and its passengers.”

The 10 Best Bonaire Resorts

Divers have long known the charms of the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire, home to some of the most marvelous diving (and snorkeling) in the hemisphere.

But, increasingly, more and more travelers are beginning to discover that there is far more to Bonaire than the world beneath its sea — from what is one of the hottest food scenes in the entire Caribbean to a vibrant, friendly cultural scene that is as diverse as it is rich.

But Bonaire is also home to a lovely collection of resorts, most of them on the intimate side, from classic dive retreats to luxury beach hotspots and everything in between. Even better? It’s also home to one of the best value hotel products in the region, meaning you can find terrific stays at rates you simply won’t find in other destinations.

And getting to Bonaire has never been easier, thanks to American Airlines’ launch of four weekly flights to Bonaire from Miami, all year round.

If you’re thinking of planning a getaway to discover Bonaire, these are 10 perfect gateways for your Bonaire vacation.

Harbour Village Bonaire The undisputed grande dame of Bonaire resorts, the Harbour Village is an elegant, refined, serene resort that just so happens to be set on the most beautiful stretch of sand of any hotel on the island. There is a mix of 43 rooms and suites (and some private villas, too), many with full kitchens and ocean views. The restaurant, La Balandra, is among the romantic waterfront dining spots in Bonaire, and the dive center offers every type of underwater experience. It’s the best all-around resort in Bonaire, the top luxury resort in Bonaire and, well, you get the idea.
