Hilton Continues Caribbean Expansion With First Resort in Anguilla

Hilton has officially opened its first-ever resort on the Caribbean island of Anguilla.

Hilton’s LXR Hotels and Resorts collection has launched at the Zemi Beach House in Anguilla.

It’s Hilton’s first Anguilla property and the first-ever LXR Hotels and Resorts-branded resort in the Americas region.

The 76-key hotel continues to be owned and operated by the Goldstein family of New York.

LXR is what Hilton calls its “premier collection brand,” focused on properties in “the world’s most alluring locations,” according to a company description.

There are just two other LXR resorts in the world: the Habtoor Palace in Dubai, and the Biltmore Mayfair in London.

“Zemi Beach House is the ideal property and Anguilla is the perfect destination to debut LXR within the Americas,” said Feisal Jaffer, global head, LXR Hotels and Resorts. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Zemi Beach House in creating truly extraordinary and authentic experiences for all of our guests.”

Zemi Beach House, which first made its debut in early 2016, is set on Anguilla’s spectacular Shoal Bay East beach.

Its amenities include two eateries: Stone, a “sea-to-table” eatery; 20 Knots, the resort’s beach bar; and three bars and lounges: the barefoot-chic Shoal Bay Zemi Beach Club, the Bohio Bar and Lounge cocktial bar and the Rhum Room, which focuses on small-batch, single-estate rums from around the Caribbean.

That’s along with three pools, a grass tennis court and perhaps the resort’s signature amenity: the 15,000-square-foot Thai House, a 300-year-old authentic Thai building with a spa, outdoor showers and a pool.

“We are excited to join LXR’s growing collection of luxury hotels from top destinations around the world,” said Paulo Paias, General Manager at Zemi. “We look forward to sharing Zemi Beach House with Hilton’s global travelers and continuing to provide unforgettable experiences to our guests.”

It’s yet another expansion in the Caribbean for Hilton, which has been adding new resorts around the region at a breakneck pace in the last several years, from new all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic and Mexico to a new planned resort in the Cayman Islands

The Club will include a rooftop wellness spa and lounge, a beachfront restaurant, a club pool, a fitness center and a lighted tennis court.

Long Bay shot to fame several years ago with the debut of the Shore Club Turks and Caicos, now one of the Caribbean’s most prominent luxury resorts.

“The Beach Houses provide a unique opportunity to own a freestanding beachfront home within a managed resort,” said Vasco Borges, CEO of Beach Enclave. “Designed by acclaimed Brazilian architects Jacobsen Arquitetura, known for their trademark tropical design, each of the four Beach Houses showcase Beach Enclave’s design ethos of holistic indoor and outdoor spaces at its best. Beach Encalve’s Turks and Caicos portfolio includes Beach Enclave North Shore, Beach Enclave Long Bay Phase 1 and Beach Enclave Grace Bay.

The Grace Bay project broke ground in 2018 and is slated to debut in November 2020 with 10 villas.

There’s a Hot New Cocktail Bar in The Bahamas

There’s a new craft cocktail bar in the heart of The Bahamas’ most popular destination.

It’s called Bon Vivants Cafe and Bar, and the new bar is set in Nassau’s Sandyport neighborhood.

The bar, with a decor featuring oversized rattan chairs, lush wallpaper and a vintage cocktail glass collection, hosts a weekly jazz night on Wednesdays.

It’s the brainchild of Young’s Fine Wine, one of The Bahamas’ top wine purveyors. which says the bar’s concept and ambience “draw inspiration from the lush history of our beautiful Bahamaland as well as the infamous life and writings of Ernest Hemingway.”

But the centerpiece is a 23-page menu featuring more than 48 drinks, everything from classic cocktails to premium spirits and “adult-versions of childhood favorites.”

It’s a welcome addition to what is one of the hottest dining scenes in the Caribbean, from mainstays like Graycliff and Cafe Matisse to new eateries at the Baha Mar and Atlantis.

Cancun Air Traffic Showing Improvement

Cancun International Airport had another solid month in November, the latest data from parent company ASUR show.

After what was a sluggish year for most of 2019, the airport has picked up steam in recent months.

Indeed, traffic in Cancun last month rose by 2.5 percent, compared to the same month in 2018.

That was buoyed by a total of 1.293 million international passengers, according to ASUR.

That number far outpaced the airport’s yearly traffic growth, which has been largely flat at 0.2 percent.

For the year, Cancun, the busiest airport in the wider Caribbean, has handled 14.976 million passengers.

ASUR’s portfolio of regional airports also includes San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin Interantional Airport, which is having a banner year so far.
