Holland America Extends Cruise Pause to June 30

Cruise company Holland America Line has extended its pause of global cruise operations to June 30, the company announced.

The moves comes amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with all sailings scheduled to depart through June 30 having been canceled.

The company said it was assessing the future impact of the recent U.S. Centers for Disease Control “no sail order” which covered cruises through mid-July.

“These are unprecedented times,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “We know this decision impacts our loyal guests, travel advisor partners, staff members and local businesses who rely on summer tourism for their economies.”

The company said guests whose cruises had been impacted would have a pair of options: one, to defer a refund and get a future cruise credit for 125 percent of the base cruise fare — along with an onboard credit of $250 per person.

The other option is a 100 percent refund, with all monies paid to the company reimbursed.

Caribbean Moment: The Most Iconic Beach in St Croix

Buck Island. Protestant Cay. Shoys. The gorgeous island of St Croix in the US Virgin Islands has no shortage of jaw-dropping beaches.

But ask locals and they’ll almost universally say that Sandy Point, on the far southwestern tip of the island, is their favorite.

Focused in the eponymous Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, and extending all the way to West Beach on the outskirts of Frederiksted, it’s nothing short of stunning, with mesmerizingly beautiful white-gold sand, clear turquoise waters.

It’s the sort of captivating, dreamy beach we all want to be at right now — and St Croix is the kind of place we’re all dreaming about.

So take a minute from your day and go beach-hopping with the latest Caribbean Moment.

Delta Continuing Some Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic Routes

Delta Air Lines has drastically reduced its Caribbean network in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but it has maintained service to two Caribbean destinations: San Juan, Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

That means Delta Air Lines is currently operating just two routes to the Caribbean right now: daily flights between Atlanta and San Juan, Puerto Rico; and daily flights between New York-John F. Kennedy International Airport and Santo Domingo.

The moves come in response to a broad shutdown of the region to international travel.

While Delta has continued the aforementioned routes to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, it should be noted that both destinations are in strong lockdown.

Delta is also continuing flights to Mexico, albeit at a reduced frequency, with Atlanta-Mexico City flights and Salt Lake City to Mexico City.

The Atlanta-Mexico City flights are daily, while Salt Lake-Mexico flights are “less than daily operation,” according to Delta.

Delta had been continuing its service from Atlanta to Cancun before suspending that route, too.

“Delta is continuing to make adjustments to scheduled service systemwide based on CDC guidelines, government travel restrictions and reduced customer demand,” the company said in a statement.
