Serenity at Coconut Bay Opens in St. Lucia

One of the Caribbean’s most hotly-anticipated boutique resorts has debuted on the island of St. Lucia.

Serenity at Coconut Bay, a boutique adults only all inclusive hotel-within-a-hotel at St. Lucia’s Coconut Bay, opened its doors last month with 36 luxury suites.

Each suite includes its own plunge pool and butler service; amenities include 24-hour room service, fully-stocked wet bars, private check in and check out, pillow menus, Bose entertainment centers and Molton Brown toiletries, among others.

Serenity also includes an adults-only 3,000-square-foot pool with daybeds and cabanas and an 85-foot lap pool at its center.

The hotel, located just a short drive from St. Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport, also includes a signature restaurant called Greathouse featuring “Caribbean-inspired” cuisine.

“We recognized a demand for a luxury product with a high level of quality and service, and the ambitious design and service concept for Serenity came to life,” says Mark Adams, CEO of Serenity. “Our butlers will be an integral part of the outstanding, personalized all-inclusive experience seeing to guests’ every need from in-suite spa services to romantic dining and more.”

It’s a major new addition to the Caribbean’s all inclusive resorts.

The Caribbean’s Glamping Resort

It’s just about the closest thing to a safari lodge in the Caribbean, substituting the savannah for the sand.

The Anegada Beach Club, a relatively new resort in the far reaches of the British Virgin Islands, has developed the Caribbean’s most impressive “glamping,” or luxury camping, experience.

Set on a stretch of white sand, the Anegada Beach Club’s striking “luxury tents” are perched among the dunes above the shore, with 10 in total, a few set further back from the beach.

And the tents are beautiful — not rustic, but cleverly designed with solar power and canvas walls and clever, comfortable design.

All of the tents come with a king canopy bed, en-suite bathrooms and hot showers, a daybed, a furnished deck, Wi-Fi, a coffee maker and a table and chairs (although no air conditioning, but that’s not why you’re here, after all).

And if the tents are a bit too adventurous for you, the hotel also offers 16 traditional hotel rooms, along with a great little beach bar, a pool and restaurant.

The tents, though, are the stars here, casting a rather stunning silhouette on this cut of Anegada coast, one of the more remote hotels in the Caribbean in every sense of the word — and that’s what makes it just so special.

Anegada is an island for adventurers, those willing to go the extra mile to find the Caribbean’s truly authentic outposts.

And it delivers.

Haiti’s Sunrise Airways Adds Airbus

Haiti-based Sunrise Airways has added a major new addition to its expanding fleet: a new Airbus A320.

The 150-seat aircraft features 12 seats in first class and 138 in economy.

“The type of expansion we are pursuing throughout the Caribbean and into North and South America demands that we continually invest in modern jet aircraft offering the very best in comfort and reliability,” said Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways. “Our new A320, with seating in both first class and economy, continues our mission to elevate Caribbean aviation to new heights, while also paving the way for us to serve new and existing international markets at a high level.”

Sunrise Airways’ newest Airbus A320 currently operates from the carrier’s hub in Port-au-Prince to three destinations in Cuba – Havana, Camaguey, and Santiago de Cuba – with additional expansion throughout the Caribbean, as well as North and South America, planned for 2017 pending government approval.

Rum Journal: A Great Little Bar in Jost Van Dyke

“Red nuts and gin.”

Within this phrase somewhere was great wisdom, the secret to enlightenment, or so Seddy at the corner of the bar instructed us.

This was the venerable A&B Bar, a Jost Van Dyke institution older than anyone can remember, named for husband and wife owners Alan and Beryl, the kind of pure, honest bar that is the fulcrum of West Indian hospitality.

Of course, we’d have never stopped here if not for an instant torrent of rain on the road in Great Harbour, which brought our group under the nearest roof where we were soon taking Brugal Rum, neat, despite the warnings of the crowd.

But without the downpour, we’d have never met people like Seddy or Albert or the bartender Stephanie, who opened the door to the real Jost van Dyke and let us peer inside.

Bartender Stephanie Irish.

This is the friendliest bar in Jost van Dyke, a place known for its bars.

“Red nuts and gin,” or, unscrambled: understanding, the kind of thing you find in bars like the A&B.
