Grand Cayman’s Comfort Suites Makes Upgrades

Comfort Suites Seven Mile Beach is now welcoming guests to enjoy its newly upgraded common and breakfast areas.

The Grand Cayman hotel recently renovated its lobby with the addition of a Marketplace offering sundry items and as well as hot and cold food options, including Caribbean roti, according to Tom Mason, General Manager of Comfort Suites Seven Mile Beach.

A new kitchen area geared for preparing the Comfort brand’s signature complimentary hot breakfast, as well as a new breakfast room, have also been added.

The local breakfast team has been increased to four full-time staff members who are “thrilled to help guests get a great start to their day in this new, modern and fresh environment,” Mason said.

In an effort to improve guest experience and enhance the hotel’s environmentally friendly practices, it also replaced disposable plates, cups and cutlery with china crockery, silver cutlery and glass plates.

“The new Marketplace in our renovated lobby has also drawn a lot of praise as have the new tile flooring and refresh of all ground floor hallways,” Mason said. “And trading out disposable items at breakfast not only helps protect the island’s delicate environment, it adds a warmer touch of home for travelers when they sit down to eat.”

Five Laid-Back Caribbean Hotels For Couples

What makes the perfect romantic retreat? For us, it’s got to be in an idyllic (Caribbean, of course!) location with sufficient diversions to ensure we don’t get bored but not so many that we lose focus on the real reason we came: each other. But some hotels offer a perfect combination of seclusion and relaxation — they’re laid back while retaining their luxury. Here are five laid-back hotels that are perfect for couples. CJ Travel Editor Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon has the full story.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden Visits St. Croix

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden flew to St. Croix this week with his family to celebrate the New Year.

Biden, who regularly visits St. Croix, will be staying on the island through Jan. 2.

It will likely be his last visit to the U.S. Virgin Islands as a sitting Vice President, with incoming President Donald J. Trump set to be sworn in on Jan. 20.

The visit caused traffic congestion unusual for the island after landing with his wife Dr. Jill Biden at St. Croix’s Henry E. Rohlsen Airport.

Biden, who has been active in the Caribbean region as VP, including chairing a major Caribbean energy summit earlier this year, also visited St. Croix last year at this time, similarly staying through Jan. 2.

The new megaship can carry almost 6,300 passengers (and 2,400 crew members).

Harmony will be making 24 trips to Puerto Rico between December and April 2018; Puerto Rico has been receiving mega ships since 2014 following the expansion of its Pier 3.

Puerto Rico is projecting a total of 1.7 million cruise passengers in 2017-18.

Rum Journal: The Best Rum Bar in Turks and Caicos

It’s famous, this place, for its conch, and rightly so: Da Conch Shack draws pilgrims from across the world to taste its freshly-grabbed conch from the waters off Providenciales. (We like the cracked conch best).

But there’s another reason to come to this corner of Providenciales — rum.

Just to the side of the famous restaurant is a terrific little rum bar, with some notable inclusions like Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, Mount Gay XO, El Dorado 15 and even a limited edition Rhum Clement VSOP, among others.

It’s the kind of selection that’s not easy to find in this part of the region — and that makes it all the more welcome.

And then there’s Jan’s Infamous Rum Punch which, well, you’ll just have to try for yourself.

Nothing washes conch down better.
